Lost hikers rescued from Cuyler Hill State Forest

Local News

An officer with the DEC was recognized this week for rescuing a couple who got lost while hiking in Truxton’s Cuyler Hill State Forest on Sunday (October 25).

ECO Andrew Kostuk arrived on-scene and spoke to a son of the lost pair — he was separated from his parents when they chose to avoid a more difficult section of a trail all three were hiking.

The son provided Kostuk with the last known location he saw his parents and the officer went to work, coordinating with county dispatchers to eventually locate the couple at a lodge just off the main Finger Lakes Trail.

Both hikers were found in good health, other than being a bit shaken up.

ECO Kostuk then escorted the pair out of the woods and back to their vehicle, where they were reunited with their son.
