The local community lost a dear friend over the weekend: Longtime First National Bank of Dryden president Ronald Denniston, who passed away unexpectedly on Sunday after 79 years of life.

Denniston belonged to the Dryden High School Class of 1958 and graduated from Ithaca College before starting his career at the bank in 1963.

He led the organization through major growth over a span of more than 50 years, beginning his role as president in 1986 when the bank had just one office in Dryden and about 25 employees.

Today, it’s grown to 35+ employees at four offices in Dryden, Cortland and Homer.

Additionally, Denniston served as vice president of the Southworth Library and was on the Board of Directors at Tompkins Cortland Community College.

Services are set for Sunday. Stay tuned for additional details in the coming days.
