During a special Board of Education meeting today, former longtime CHS social studies teacher Robert Edwards was named the new Superintendent of Cortland Enlarged City School District.

Edwards spent 10 years teaching and assistant coaching at Cortland, before moving on to take over as principal of Baldwinsville Schools from 2012-16.

For the past four years, Edwards has been the Phoenix Central School District serving as Executive Director of Instruction and Personnel.

He now returns home to Cortland to succeed the retiring Michael Hoose, effective July 1.

In a release that followed today’s meeting, district officials said the following:

“The Board of Education wishes to thank all in the Cortland Enlarged City School District school personnel and community members who participated in the selection process.

While the interactions were primarily through virtual means, the Board considered the feedback with fidelity and the thoughts and suggestions shared were valuable throughout this process.

The Board of Education and the Cortland community sincerely welcome Robert Edwards and wish him much success. We hope you join us in committing to a productive partnership with our new Superintendent as he endeavors to serve all of the students attending our schools.”
