Locke Man Arrested For DWI After Traffic Stop on Route 90 – Vehicle Driving at 83mph
The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office says another person has been arrested for Driving While Intoxicated following a traffic stop. Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck says back on October 17th, around 7:30 in the evening, 65 year old David R. Costley of Locke was taken into custody and charged with DWI, Obstructing Governmental Administration in the 2nd, and several vehicle and traffic violations.
Around 7:10 that evening, a deputy patrolling saw a black Ford Mustang driving at 83mph westbound on Route 90, near Tollgate Hill Road; the speed limit on Route 90 in that area is 55mph.
When the deputy attempted to make a traffic stop for speeding, Costley allegedly refused to comply and continued to drive onto Tollgate Hill Road, this time at the posted speed limit. Sheriff Schenck says the deputy witnessed Costley throw a can out of the window of the vehicle before he pulled into a residential driveway. He was then taken into custody. A further investigation later determined Costley was driving while intoxicated.
Costley was taken to the Public Safety Building for processing and refused to submit to a chemical test to determine alcohol content, Sheriff Schenck says. He was later arraigned via the Centralized Arraignment Process and released on his own recognizance. He is due in Locke Town Court at a later time.
