SUNY Cortland Women’s Lacrosse Team Brings Home SUNYAC Title

The SUNY Cortland Men’s Lacrosse team beat Oswego 16-5 on Friday.

Homer native Dante Yacovone scored 6 goals, Zak Jones scored 5 goals, Pat Doyen scored 2, and Troy Morris, Colton Smith and Brandon Stiles each added a goal.

Their next game will be the SUNYAC Semifinal matchup against Potsdam.

On Saturday, The SUNY Cortland Softball team swept a doubleheader against Buffalo State by scores of 10-2 and 4-0. In the 1st game, Taylor Felicello went 2-2 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs and Sabrina Caputo went 1-3 with a 2 run triple.

In the second game, Felicello went 2-2 with an RBI single and Tori Reich went 1-3 with an RBI double.

Their next doubleheader will be Tuesday, May 4th against Oswego at 3 PM.

On Sunday, the SUNY Cortland Baseball team swept both games of a doubleheader against Plattsburgh by scores of 11-0 and 15-5 respectively. In the first game, Scott Giordano went 3-4 with 3 RBIs coming off a 2 run double and a solo Homerun. Collin BeVard went 2-2 with a 2 run single and an RBI triple.

In the second game, Matthew Krafft went 1-2 with a sac fly and and a 2 run double, knocking in 3 runs total. James Varian went 2-2 with 2 RBIs, 2 runs scored, and a walk.

Their next doubleheader is today against Brockport starting at 1 PM.

The SUNY Cortland Women’s Lacrosse team are champions once again as they bring home another SUNYAC title in a 15-13 victory over Brockport.

After a close back and forth game, Cortland pulled away with a 4 goal lead with 8 minutes remaining and Brockport fell short of a comeback. Toni Cashman and Hannah Lorenzen each scored 5 goals while Kiki Meager, Hannah Tiso, Shelby Meduski, Hannah Keech and Emily Goebel added goals of their own.

This win secures them a spot in the NCAA Division III tournament and the Bracket will be announced today during a selection show at 10:30 AM.

The Syracuse Crunch played 2 games over the weekend and went 1-1. On Saturday, the Crunch lost 3-1 to the Rochester Americans.

On Sunday, the Crunch beat the Utica Comet 5-2. Jimmy Huntington, Peter Abbandonato, Chase Priskie, Cole Koepke, and Andreas Borgman all scored a goal in the victory.

Their next game will be Wednesday at 7 PM against the Utica Comets.

The Tompkins Cortland Community College Baseball team swept a doubleheader against Jefferson Community College on Sunday by scores of 10-3 and 5-0. In the first game, Nick Scanlon went 2-3 with 2 RBIs and a walk.

In the second game, Caleb Thompson pitched  shutout innings allowing only 2 hits and 1 walk to lead the Panthers to victory.

Their next doubleheader will be today against Jefferson Community College starting at 3 PM
