Local Sports April 8, 2021The SUNY Cortland Softball team won both games of their double header by scores of 14-1 nd 12-4.
In the first game, Lexi Szesnat knocked in 4 runs with 2 basehits that knocked in 2 each. Kelly O’Gorman knocked in 3 runs on 4-4 batting. Sabrina Caputo and Taylor Felicello also brought on 2 RBIs each. Karlee Weeden pitched 4 innings and picked up the W.
In the second game, Tori Reich went 4-4 with 3 RBIS, Kelly O’Gorman went 2-4 with 2 RBIS, and Megan Peace went 2-2 with 2 RBIs. Courtney Kane pitched 5 shutout innings and got the win.
Their next doubleheader will be Saturday, April 10th, at 12 PM.
The SUNY Cortland Men’s Lacrosse team lost to St. John Fisher 13-9. Their next game is Tuesday, April 13th at 4 PM.
Onto High school football. Cortland beat West Hill 32-12 in a thrilling Wednesday night battle. Chris MacDuffee rushed 19 times for 109 yards and a touchdown and Collin Williams threw a pair of touchdowns and ran one out from 60 yards to secure a victory for Cortland. Brycen Palmer was making plays all over the field on defense and forced a fumble.
On the West Hill side, Quarterback Miguel Monic showed off his arm strength as he threw for 175 yards and 2 touchdowns. Myshawn Thomas had 6 catches for 104 yards and made a lot of really tough catches.

The Syracuse Crunch beat the Rochester Americans 4-3 yesterday to improve to 8-6-1 on the season. Devante Stephens and Alex Green scored a goal each. Their next game will be Saturday, April 10th at 7 PM against the Utica Comets.
