Local health educator shares personal tie with breast cancer awareness (audio)

On Saturday’s (Oct. 23) Meet Cortland County segment:

An important discussion on Breast Cancer Awareness month with Courtney McCallen, a public health educator with the county for 17 years.

She specifically works under the Cancer Services program, which provides low-cost screenings and other care for residents without insurance in Cortland, Cayuga and Tompkins Counties.

As if the cause wasn’t noble enough, McCallen has a personal connection to her work that makes it all the more special:

“It was this very program that helped save my own mother’s life. She is a breast cancer survivor of 25 years, so it’s been an amazing way for me to be able to pay it forward.”
