It’s memorial day weekend and local veterans groups will be holding ceremonies to honor service men and women.
In Homer, the annual memorial day parade starts at 9 o’clock Monday morning. The procession heads down Main Street to the Glenwood Cemetery where a ceremony is held to honor the war dead.
Mike McDermott with the Cortland County American Legion says the day not only recognizes those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice to preserve our freedoms but also to those that have answered the call to duty.
Following the ceremony at the cemetery the Homer American Legion will have refreshments available. Ceremonies will be held in Cortland and in the Towns of Scott and Truxton.
