Local Awardees Of More Than $2.8 Million NYS Grant To Combat Invasive Species

Governor Cuomo recently awarded more than $2.8 million in grants to 42 projects across the state to reduce the negative impacts of invasive species in our ecosystem.

That included a few local awardees:

–Cornell University got $100,000 to develop environmental DNA tools that can detect the highly invasive aquatic plant hydrilla verticillate.

–The Cortland County Soil & Water Conservation District got just over $65,000 for the Boat Decontamination Project called “STOP the Invasion”

–SUNY Cortland got just under $95,000 to assess the threat of co-invasive jumping worms to our state.

The grants are part of the State Department of Environmental Conservation’s Invasive Species Grant Program and are funded by the State’s Environmental Protection Fund.
