Loaded Handgun, and Cocaine Found During Disturbance Complaint at Port Watson Street Parking Lot

Early Saturday morning, March 30th, around 2:50 in the morning, Cortland Police responded to a reported disturbance near the Port Watson Street parking lot in Downtown Cortland. As officers arrived in the area, they found a vehicle with 3 subjects inside in the parking lot.

As the officers were approaching the vehicle, one of the persons inside the vehicle attempted to conceal a handgun. Officers were able to take the person with the handgun, identified as Thulani M. Ntombela of Ithaca, into custody. The gun was confiscated by officers for evidence and found to be loaded. Ntombela did not have a NYS permit for the handgun, Cortland Police say.

As he was being arrested for the gun, officers found him to be in possession of cocaine. Ntombela was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd – load firearm, a Felony, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th, a Misdemeanor.

Cortland Police say there was no report of the handgun having been used in the disturbance and Ntombela was the only one arrested from the disturbance.

Ntombela was arraigned and then sent to Cortland County Jail on $500 bail / $1,000 bond. He is due to appear in Cortland City Court later this month.
