Paul McCartney‘s upcoming illustrated children’s book, Hey Grandude!, will be published on September 5, and now the former Beatles star has revealed that he’s narrating the audio edition himself.

McCartney has posted a video of him reading a segment of the book, in which he portrays the main character, on his official YouTube channel.

In the clip, Sir Paul says, “Dear listener, my name is Edward Marshall Senior. I have four grandchildren. I call them ‘chillers,’ and they call me ‘Grandude.’ Come and join us on our adventure. Yours sincerely, Grandude.”

McCartney also created some original music to accompany his narration, a snippet of which can be heard in the video.

As previously reported, Hey Grandude! was inspired by McCartney’s own experiences as a grandparent, and tells the tale of an elderly explorer who takes his four grandkids on a series of magical adventures. Among the exploits Grandude and his chillers enjoy are riding flying fish, dodging stampedes and escaping avalanches.

The book features colorful illustrations by Kathryn Durst.

You can order Hey Grandude! now at It’s available as a hardback book, on CD, and as a digital download.
