Today (September 25) marked the United Way for Cortland County’s (UWCC) 24th Annual “Day of Caring”, where volunteer teams from around the community spent the day giving back to those around them in a variety of ways.

Some took to Beaudry Park, helping collect, sort and distribute food donations that will now be picked up and sent off to help stock eleven pantries across the county.

Helping out at Beaudry were Mrs. Hall’s third grade students from Smith Elementary School.

Elsewhere, Marathon elementary students got themselves involved by collecting pennies throughout the year, which they presented as a check to be donated to the food drive.

General cleanup and paint projects also took place in Homer, McGraw and Cortland.

Teams from United Way, Intertek Testing, JM Murray Center, Bailey Place Insurance, Breakfast Rotary, Citizens Bank and Molina Healthcare all lent a hand.

WXHC’s Vinnie Bellardini stopped by Beaudry Park around 1 p.m. and met with Cortland United Way Executive Director Christella Yonta.

The two recapped the day of events over a barbecue lunch, donated and served to the event’s volunteers by Bob’s BBQ on Route 281 in Homer.
