Stitzel is the local coordinator for the program, which is organized and facilitated annually to children across the country by the U.S. Marine Corps. and their band of volunteers.

Last year’s campaign distributed more than 4,800 toys to nearly 1,400 Cortland County children, but collections nationwide are at major shortfall this year due to the bankrupcty and closure of Toys ‘R’ Us stores in June 2018, which was an avid supporter of Toys for Tots.

Stitzel said that alone has created a near $6k-shortfall in expected donations.

He’s now asking for the community’s help in trying to make up for some of the losses.
