Lime Hollow to Launch Women in the Woods in March – Event to Create Space for Women to Learn, Connect, and Explore Outdoors
Lime Hollow Nature Center says on Saturday, March 7, they will begin a new, women-centered outdoor education series titled “Women in the Woods.” The new outdoor education series is designed to empower women and non-binary people of all ages, abilities, and body types, and experience levels, Lime Hollow says. Lime Hollow says this will help them feel confident spending time outdoors.
A free open house will be held on Saturday, March 7 beginning at 10 a.m. and offer an accessible introduction to hiking and essential outdoor skills. Lime Hollow says Women in the Woods was created as a response to a long-standing gap in the outdoor industry, which they say has left many women feeling unsure if they truly belong outdoors.
“For a long time, the outdoor industry has sent a quiet message about who belongs outside,” program guide Candace Rozansky says. “Women in the Woods is our way of pushing back, creating a welcoming, low-pressure space where women and non-binary folks can learn, explore, and reclaim their wild.”
The open house will be for approximately two hours and is designed as an education entry point into hiking. Those interested in attending aren’t required to have previous experience, special gear, or specific fitness level. Participants will be encouraged to bring themselves and their sense of adventure. Any necessary materials will be provided, Lime Hollow says.
Some of the topics to be covered during the open house include: The Ten Essentials for safe and confident time outdoors, Women-specific gear, including inclusive options for plus-sized bodies, real-talk outdoor skills that address the practical realities women face outdoors, and building community in natural spaces.
“This series isn’t just about learning outdoor skills,” Rozansky adds. “It’s about connecting with women who feel like you do, building friendships, and gaining the confidence to try new adventures together, whether that’s a first hike or an overnight in the backcountry.”
The Women in the Woods will be a 6 part monthly series and will build skills gradually throughout the season, Lime Hollow noted. Participants can attend individual sessions or choose to take part in the entire series, which Lime Hollow says, culminates in a supported overnight backpacking trip at the end of summer. Pricing will be posted online at LimeHollow.org.
