Less Than a Month Until Tax Day – NYS Dept. of Taxation Offering Free Simple Filings

There is now less than a month until Tax Day, April 15th. The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance is reminding taxpayers within the state of information available online at Tax.NY.gov which can help filing a personal income tax return simpler, faster, and also free for qualifying New Yorkers.

The Department of Taxation and Finance says both the IRS and New York State have teamed up to expand the Direct File eligibility by allowing more taxpayers to file their 2024 federal and state personal income tax returns for free.

“We want to provide the most convenient tax filing experience possible,” said New York State Department of Taxation and Finance Acting Commissioner Amanda Hiller. “The resources available at www.tax.ny.gov can help taxpayers quickly and easily meet their filing obligations and receive any refunds they’re owed.”

Direct File is a free and easy to use e-file option for eligible taxpayers for filing both federal and state income tax returns. The program is accessible through your mobile devices including smartphones, laptops, or tablets. It is also available on a normal desktop computer. To qualify, taxpayers must have 2024 wages of $200,000 or less; $250,000 if filing jointly. Full eligibility requirements may be found HERE.
