Legislature To Vote On Beginning Stages Of New 911 Center on W. Court Street

Local News

The Cortland County Legislature will meet tonight (March 28) for its monthly legislative session.

One of the items on that agenda is the authorization of a contract with King and King Architects of Syracuse, NY to help design a new 911 communications center at 22 West Court Street in Cortland. They’ve already conducted a feasibility study of the property and are ready to go upon County approval.

The County received grant funding for the project from the State Homeland Security Department’s Office of Interoperable Communications.

At this point, the Legislature is expected to vote on the project, although sources say there’s a possibility it could fail or even be pulled.

The Legislature will also vote on sending to Albany a resolution opposing SENATE BILL 1413, which deals with requiring Social Media Reviews Prior to the Approval of a handgun license or delivery of a shotgun or rifle.

If approved, that resolution would be forwarded to Governor Cuomo, Assemblyman Finch, Assemblywoman Lifton, and Senator Seward.

There are plenty more items on that agenda, available for your viewing at cortland-co.org.

Tonight’s meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. in the legislative chambers of the County Office Building, 60 Central Avenue in Cortland.
