Legislation was advanced by the Democratic-led Senate and Senator Lea Webb to protect veterans in New York State.
The package of legislation would include aspects like authorizing a close friend or family to fulfill veterans’ burial wishes at their request and to clarify the definition of “veteran” for tax purposes. It would also allow a study on SUNY/CUNY Student-Veteran Services, requiring both SUNY and CUNY to examine and conduct a study on the availability of campus services, programs and resources for veteran students.
Senator Webb said in a statement she was glad to advance these measures to ensure vets and their families have equal access to benefits, education and support.
