Law Enforcement to Crack Down on Speeders This Week

It is Speed Week, and law enforcement agencies throughout the state will be cracking down on speeding motorists. The campaign will also target those driving aggressively. With this, the New York State Police will be deploying additional patrols on the roadways and to continue to monitor highway work zones and target those violating the state’s “Move Over” law.

“The goal of this campaign and our traffic enforcement efforts all year long is to reduce speed-related crashes and improve safe travel for drivers and passengers on New York’s roads. State Troopers will be highly visible during this traffic enforcement period and throughout the peak summer driving period, targeting those who drive recklessly and put others in danger.”

State Police Superintendent Steven G. James said.

Speeding is one of the leading causes of fatal crashes in the state each year. During the enforcement campaign, law enforcement will utilize both marked and unmarked patrol vehicles, called Concealed Identity Traffic Enforcement (CITE). The vehicles will blend in with regular traffic, but will be “unmistakable” as emergency vehicles as soon as the lights are activated.
