“I’ll bring the funny, you come and laugh a little.” Comedian Liz Russo
The Italian Comedy Festa featuring Tommy Rizzo and Liz Russo is coming to Cortland Repertory’s Downtown Stage Saturday night.
In an interview with X101 News, Russo says she’s Italian, a little Greek, and her family is a big part of her comedy. “Comedy that is around our family members, and food, and all that kind of thing. I really feel lots of different nationalities can relate to that.”

Russo says the Italian in her comes out when it’s time for food. “Food is love. That’s definitely for sure. We’re big eaters in the Russo household, you know. It’s like, every restaurant in the area knows who we are, for sure.”
Food is one of the topics Russo can really focus on. “Food is love, and that’s one thing I had to deal with a little bit later in my life. I’ve recently lost 100 pounds, but that means I had to do without a whole lot of pasta to make that happen.”
(Wait until you hear how she describes her tremendous weight loss achievement.)
Russo hopes to do more television work, and she turns 40 next March. “You know, when other women are thinking about marriage and kids, I’m just thinking about a late-night TV spot, before I reach 40.”
“I never make fun of other people, I just figure, I can do enough making fun of myself and my experiences and other people can certainly relate to that.” Liz Russo
There is one category of people that Liz will take a jab at in her show. “The ex-boyfriends will definitely see themselves in my act. (laughs) That’s why they’re exes. They’re just material.”
The audience usually enjoys when she makes a “boop” sound.
