LatinX Festival Happening This Saturday in Downtown Cortland
Downtown Cortland will be hosting the first-ever Crown City LatinX Festival this Saturday, September 20th beginning at 11am until 4 in the afternoon in the Groton Ave. parking lot in the City of Cortland. The event is a partnership between the city and SUNY Cortland. The event will be taking place in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept 15-Oct 15), Crown City Rising says.
The festival is open for anyone to attend and will let the Cortland Community indulge in some of the flavors of Latin culture with food and drinks from local establishments including Los Lagos, Veracruzana Mexican Restaurant, and La Bamba Cuisine.
There will also be music from a Latin DJ, and a mariachi band bringing traditional sounds of Mexico. Crown City Rising also says SUNY Cortland’s Ritmo Latino dance group will also have dynamic performances and invite spectators to join in and offer beginner-friendly dance lessons.
Other activities include: color activities and information about immigration from La Familia Latina, and face painting from 1:30-4 by the ESL Club. There will also be activities from Women of Color, Caribbean Student Association, and the Spanish Club. Those activities have not been announced through the event page yet.
A dominoes tournament will be held by the CNY Latino of Syracuse and will welcome those attending the festival to play or cheer on those competing.
More information on this Saturday’s LatinX Festival may be found through their Facebook event page, HERE. It should also be noted that 20 parking spaces will remain available for those planning to go to the Hollywood Restaurant. The eastern half of the Groton Ave. parking lot will be closed to vehicles from 6pm Friday through 8am Monday, Cortland Police announced. The closure is to allow tent and equipment setup.
