Lansing Man Charged After Fleeing Police on Stolen ATV

A Lansing man is facing multiple charges after fleeing from police on a stolen ATV.

Last Thursday, Tompkins County Sheriff’s Deputies and State Police responded to 40 Catherwood Road in the Village of Lansing for a man operating an ATV in the parking lot.

Upon further investigation, the man was identified as 18-year-old James Coyne of Lansing and the ATV was found to be stolen.

Coyne fled on the ATV leading police on a chase. Coyne is accused of intentionally hitting a marked Sheriff’s Patrol car. He eventually crashed the ATV at the intersection of Scofield and Peruville Roads in Lansing. No injuries were reported.

Coyne was charged with a felony count of criminal mischief, a misdemeanor count of unlawfully fleeing a police officer and several traffic violations.

Coyne is due in the Town of Lansing Court on September 3rd.
