Kitchen Fire Sparks Second Alarm Fire in Village of Groton

Around 6pm Sunday evening in the Village of Groton, a call came in of a possible outdoor fire at 166 Main Street. Additional calls then came in of the building at 166 Main Street being on fire.


Quick arrival by Groton Fire confirmed the structure fire and a second alarm call was issued bringing in assistance from area fire departments.

Firefighters found the fire in a kitchen area of a 2nd floor apartment within the building and were able to contain the fire there. The fire was extinguished within an hour of the original call. One person is being assisted by the Red Cross.

No injuries were reported during the fire.

Assisting the Groton Fire Department were the Dryden, Freeville, McLean fire departments, Tompkins County Sheriff, New York State Police, and Groton Police.
