Yesterday, January 24th, around 3 pm, the Cortlandville Fire Department responded to a call of a reported kitchen fire at a residence on Route 13 in the Town of Cortlandville.
The residence was located just one block from the fire department and firefighters were able to respond quickly. Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the house.
Firefighters made quick work and had the fire extinguished within 15 minutes. No injuries were reported. Route 13 was briefly shut down between McLean Rd. and Terrace Rd. so firefighters would have access to a fire hydrant located across the street.
The Homer Fire Department was called to the scene to assist Cortlandville for manpower. The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, and Town of Cortlandville Codes also assisted.
The occupant of the residence is currently being assisted by the Red Cross. The fire has been ruled accidental.
