The Agrivoltaics Research Program has been established in the 2024 New York State Budget through $1 million in funding secured by Assemblymember Anna Kelles.
Agrivoltaics means to use land for the purpose of both agriculture and solar energy generation. The technology prevents loss of prime farmland while also still investing in renewable energy. These systems work to facilitate a transition to a renewable energy economy while working to improve environmental and economic stability.
The Agrivoltaics Program, to be housed at Cornell University, will provide best practice guidance on implementing agrivoltaics throughout New York State.
