New York Assemblymember Anna Kelles recently passed legislation to protect Ithaca Carshare and other non-profit carshares in New York through the Assembly.
Senator Lea Webb also helped to pass the Senate version of the bill through her house, with the bill now heading to Gov. Hochul’s desk for a signature. The issue stems from difficulties nonprofits including Ithaca Carshare have been facing when securing car insurance without a viable insurance provider. The situation has left carshares without a viable insurance provider, preventing operations entirely.
Officials with Ithaca Carshare celebrated the passage of the bill, saying they appreciated the groundswell of support in regard to their insurance issues.
