Keep Fire Hydrants Clear as Snow Accumulates

Cortlandville Fire Chief Mike Biviano reminds area residents that fire hydrants must remain clear of snow in case of emergency. It is recommended that 3 feet in all directions of the hydrant should be clear of snow, which not only helps with accessibility to the hydrant, but visibility as well.

Housefires are more common in the colder months. If emergency responders need to uncover a buried hydrant, it wastes precious time that could have been spent resolving the emergency. If it is difficult to see the hydrant from the road, it will be difficult for emergency responders too. Help them, help you, and keep the fire hydrants clear of snow.
