Join Courtney Maxson for 2025’s Last Cancer Prevention Segment

Matt Brooks: [00:00:00] Good morning. I’m Matt Brooks on X 1 0 1 oh, Waze Classic in for another cancer prevention segment with the CSP program of Cayuga Cortland and Tompkins Counties. And joining me back in the studio, Courtney Maxon, senior public health educator from the Cortland County Health Department. Good morning, Courtney.

And can you believe this is the last cancer prevention segment of 2025?

Courtney Maxson: Good morning. I can’t, I can’t believe it. Where’d the, where’d the time go?

Matt Brooks: Oh, I will say that 2025 went rather quickly. A lot of stuff has happened. A lot of good things, lot less than good things. But one thing that I was really excited to quickly talk about is the community beach party.

Partly ’cause I wanna think about warmer weather, but you, you had the first annual one we’re coming up next year for another.

Courtney Maxson: Yes, absolutely. It was a wonderful first year and it is on tap for 2026. August 6th Thursday, August 6th.

Matt Brooks: Oh, I’m excited to be there, but, well, we have to get through the rest of winter first.

And the new year now, new Year’s time for New Year’s resolutions getting rest from the holidays. But [00:01:00] it’s also a moment where things can change. And, you wanted to really talk about the services that the cancer services program can do, especially not only. Is it the change of year, but healthcare premiums and all that stuff can change too?

Courtney Maxson: Yeah, absolutely. So Cancer Services program is able to pay for, breast, cervical, and colorectal cancer screenings for people 40 to 64. So if you find yourself, having high deductible insurance plan or no insurance coming up. This year for 2026, call us and we can get you, set up with the program and then you can get scheduled for those lifesaving preventative cancer screenings.

Matt Brooks: You don’t wanna call when you already need it, so I mean, if you have any concerns or just questions, and you can do it on behalf of other people too. Just trying to get some information. Call early.
