Republican Congressman John Katko announced he is retiring at the end of this year and ending his bid for re-election. Rep. Katko has represented New York’s 24th Congressional District since 2015. Spending more time with his family was a factor in his decision.

“That’s why, after 32 years of public service, I have decided not to seek re-election to Congress, so that I can enjoy my family and life in a fuller and more present way,” Katko said.

Rep. Katko received a lot of heat after being one of 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach President Trump last January. Out of the 10 GOP who voted to impeach President Trump, he is the third to step away from politics.
