‘Jaws of life’ needed to extricate driver in Cortland

The infamous ‘jaws of life’ device was required this afternoon to extricate a person entrapped in their vehicle following a two-car crash near Munson Avenue & Tompkins Street in Cortland.

Crews with the Cortlandville Fire Department were alerted of the accident shortly past Noon.

Upon arrival, they removed the driver-side door and were able to free the lone occupant within eight minutes. The drivers of both vehicles were brought to area hospitals for non-life threatening injuries.

All personal were clear of the scene and the roadway was reopened within an hour, according to C’ville assistant chief Mike Biviano.

Assisting the fire department were members of the Cortland County Sheriff’s Department, New York State Police and TLC Ambulance.
