James Taylor Announces 16-Date Summer Run

Music News

James Taylor has announced a 16-date summer run in support of his upcoming Before This World album — marking his first new studio set since 2002’s October Road. Taylor, who’s currently on the road in Europe, kicks off his U.S. dates on July 2nd at Allentown, Pennsylvania’s PPL Center, with shows running through August 6th, when “JT” will close things out with a homecoming show at Boston’s Fenway Park with fellow local gal and old friend, Bonnie Raitt.

Before This World, which will be released on June 16th, marks James Taylor’s fifth release for Concord Music Group/Hear Music. He told us the major conglomerates have lost all perspective on how and why to market music: “I think one of the things that’s good about having a label like Hear Music is that you got used to this thing with the major labels that if it wasn’t going to sell two million copies, they didn’t think it was worth their while. Y’know, an album can easily be profitable (and) pay for itself, selling 50,000 copies — selling 20,000 copies — where that is an adequate return. It’s just crazy that everything has to be a lowest common denominator — a ‘home run’ — in order to be worth putting it out. That’s. . . just no service to music whatsoever.”
