Around 8:40 in the morning yesterday, Ithaca Police responded to the Immaculate Conception Church at 113 N. Geneva Street in the City of Ithaca of a naked female with a gun at the altar of the church.
Responding officers made entry into the church to make contact with the woman and assure no one else was still inside. Officers located the naked female on the altar and found nothing in her hand at the time. IPD was able to safely take her into custody without injury.
After taking the woman into custody, officers found the reported handgun and a knife. Police determined that the gun did look like a real weapon, but was a replica Smith & Wesson BB Gun.
The woman was determined to be experiencing a mental health crisis and was transported to Cayuga Medical Center for evaluation. IPD says no charges are currently pending and the identity of the woman is not being released at this time.
