Ithaca police are leading two investigations into separate incidents that both occurred yesterday, one of which was a violent assault and the second a shots-fired call.
An individual was reportedly assaulted and robbed just before 3:00 yesterday afternoon in the area behind the Tompkins County Health Department on East Green Street.
Police say the victim was sitting at a picnic table and approached by an unidentified assailant, who then knocked them to the ground with a punch and took an undisclosed amount of cash from their pockets. The victim was brought to an area hospital and treated for non-fatal injuries. No additional description was given on the suspect.
Also being investigated is a shots fired call reported around 10:30 last night in the 300 block of South Cayuga Street in Ithaca.
Nearby witnesses say they heard shots ring off after what sounded like a verbal dispute, then saw a dark colored sedan leaving the area immediately afterward.
Nobody was injured during that incident.
Anyone with more information on either incident should contact Ithaca police.
