Police: Driver went into Cardiac Arrest before crashing in Ithaca

Ithaca police responded to a one-car crash Thursday (March 5) they say was caused when the involved driver went into cardiac arrest behind the wheel, losing control and hitting a light pole at the intersection of North Tioga and East Buffalo Streets.

Officers arrived just past 5 pm and found the driver unconscious, unresponsive and not breathing, locked inside their 1998 Isuzu Trooper SUV that was still running and in drive.

Emergency crews had to break into the vehicle and extricate person, who was revived and treated at the scene by members of Ithaca fire and Bangs Ambulance, then rushed to Cayuga Medical Center for further evaluation.

No information was released about the current condition of that individual.

Police say no others were involved in that incident, which is still under investigation.
