The City of Ithaca Police Department responded in the early morning hours yesterday to a working burglary in the parking lot of Bed Bath & Beyond of a person going through a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers boat that was parked on a trailer within the parking lot.
When an officer and investigator arrived the suspect fled on a bicycle and was eventually stopped on Clinton St. Both the officer and investigator were injured trying to apprehend the suspect.
The suspect was identified as 33 year old Michael J. Thomas of the City of Ithaca and through further investigations found that Thomas had gone on a binge of other burglaries.
Those include:
- The Fall Creek Restaurant
- Lincoln St. Diner
- Safelite Auto Glass
- Rosie’s Ice Cream Shop
- Milk Stand Restaurant
Thomas was remanded to the Tompkins County Jail on no bail and was charged with 5 counts of Burglary in the 3rd degree, a felony as well as petit larceny and possession of burglar’s tools, both misdemeanors.
