An Ithaca man was arrested in Cortland early yesterday (March 6) morning after a rather interesting string of events.
Cortland Police say 26-year-old Rashon Martin, of 4th street in Ithaca, was seen walking on Page Green Road outside the City of Cortland just past 2:00 yesterday morning. A concerned motorist stopped and offered him a ride, which he accepted. But the driver became suspicious when Martin didn’t know where he wanted to be taken and was acting suspiciously himself.
The driver brought Martin into Cortland, where he continued asking to be taken down various streets.
Eventually, a marked City police car saw the vehicle travelling around suspiciously and pulled it over directly in front of the police department.
Officers then investigated and Martin initially lied to them about his identity. It was later discovered he had an active warrant for his arrest for violating his parole. He was also found to be in possession of a small amount of cocaine and MDMA.
Martin was arraigned and sent to jail with no bail and is scheduled to reappear in Cortland City Court on March 27.
