An Ithaca man is facing attempted murder charges along with burglary and assault after an incident that took place on Friday, January 13th, in the 800 block of South Plain Street in the City of Ithaca.
The suspect, 64 year old Kenneth W. Hallett of Ithaca, had entered an adjacent apartment a little bit after 1pm armed with a knife and tried to kill the resident who was inside the apartment. Another person inside the apartment was injured by Hallett and sustained a laceration to their forearm.
Both of the victims in the incident were transported via Bangs Ambulance with nonlife threatening injuries to a local hospital. Hallett was arrested by Ithaca Police who responded to the scene after initial reports to officers stated a 14 year old had been assaulted.
After arriving at the scene, Ithaca Police learned it was two adults that were assaulted and not a 14 year old. New York State Police assisted at the scene with IPD.
Kenneth Hallett was arraigned in Ithaca City Court and remanded to Tompkins County Jail on $100,000 cash, $200,000 bond, or $500,000 partially secured surety bond with a 10% deposit.
He is expected to have a Felony preliminary hearing today, January 17th in Ithaca City Court. The incident is still being investigated by officials and no additional information is available at the time.
