At about 6:50pm Tuesday evening, Ithaca Firefighters were called to the area of Ithaca Falls for an individual reported to be in the water. Upon their arrival, crews found a victim trapped on the ice in the creek.

Firefighters in ice rescue suits made contact with the victim, provided medical care, and packaged them for removal from the ice and water. Their care was transferred to Bangs Ambulance Paramedics and Guthrie Air flew them by helicopter to a regional hospital. The efforts of the rescuers were hampered by moving water, ice, darkness, and the very cold temperatures.

The victim’s condition is not available at this time.

Bangs Ambulance, Ithaca Police, Cornell Police and EH&S, and Guthrie Air all participated in the rescue.
