It has been a busy start of the year for the Ithaca Fire Department. IFD was dispatched to a call on Tuesday, January 10th around 8:40 for a reported house fire on the 300 block of Hancock Street in the City of Ithaca.

When firefighters arrived, they found a fire within the walls of the two story residential building. Firefighters worked to locate the fire within the building, but could not immediately find it due to the amount of smoke.

Crews worked to open the walls and ceilings to locate the fire and extinguish it. Inside the house three cats and two bearded dragons were safely evacuated. No residents or firefighters were injured during the fire.

The house sustained damage as fire crews fought the fire. The cause is under investigation.

Assisting the IFD was NYSEG, IPD, and Bangs Ambulance. The Newfield Fire Department dispatched one engine to stand by in Ithaca to cover additional calls. Cayuga Heights and Lansing Fire also stood by in their stations.
