The father of a missing Syracuse toddler that triggered an AMBER Alert has admitted to killing the child.
Investigators say the little girl was killed at the Labrador Pond Recreation area near Truxton.
The father of 21-month-old Maddox Lawrence was taken into custody Monday night and by Tuesday afternoon authorities had recovered the child’s remains from a creek near the Destiny USA Mall in Syracuse.
Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick says the child’s father, 24-year-old Ryan Lawrence, has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of his daughter.
Fitzpatrick said Lawrence killed the child because he was jealous over the attention his daughter was getting due to her battle with cancer.
Fitzpatrick believes the child was killed at the recreation area here in Cortland County and then her remains were taken back and dumped in a creek near the mall where she was believed to have last been with her father.
