Two hunters are facing multiple charges after they were found transporting via taxicab poached deer in Cortlandville. The two hunters were identified as suspects by ECO Burdick and Lieutenant Colesante while investigating a prior deer jacking incident that happened this month.
Cortland County Sheriff’s Department caught the two men in the act, trying to recover a deer that was shot almost 24 hours prior.
After interviews and written statements, each of the men were issued 9 charges, including 8 misdemeanors:
Provided by DEC Criminal possession of a weapon
- Possession of a gun and a light in a motor vehicle
- Taking deer with the aid of artificial light
- Shooting from a public highway
- Shooting within 500 feet of an occupied dwelling
- Possession of a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle
- Taking big game during closed season
- Taking illegal deer
- Taking wildlife from a motor vehicle
The pictured taxicab was used in both the shooting and recovery of the deer. The case is currently handled in the Town of Cortlandville Court.
