House Total Loss in Freeville After Structure Fire – 8 Fire Departments Respond


It was a little after midnight on Friday, when the Freeville Fire Department were called to a possible structure fire on Groton Ave. in the Village of Freeville. Due to the call, additional departments were dispatched as mutual aid.

Arriving chiefs from the Freeville Fire Department responded quickly and found a massive fire that was extending to a neighboring house. Firefighters worked to prevent the fire from spreading to the neighboring house and worked successfully. Damage to the neighboring house was minimal, but the main house is deemed a total loss.

In total, 8 fire departments from both Tompkins and Cortland counties responded with over 60 firefighters. Tanker trucks were utilized to transport water to the scene. In a release by the Freeville Fire Department, the cause of the fire remains under investigation. No injuries were reported.

“It truly takes a team to do this and the team work from all agencies involved was incredible! Freeville Fire Department was on scene for 15 hours and spent another 2 hours placing all equipment back in service.” Freeville Fire said in a release.
