Once again Homer High’s Sam Sorenson finishes out his high school wrestling season on top at the state wrestling championships from MVP Arena in Albany.

This past Saturday it was a 5-2 decision for Sorenson over Evan Day, from Salem/Cambridge in the 215 pound weight class final.

This marks his second straight New York State Wrestling Championship title.

Sorenson ends his high school career with impressive numbers, with 130 consecutive wins and ranked #11 nationally.

A homecoming victory escort for Sam and the wrestling team was led by area first responders, including the Homer Police Department and fire department. The route went through the village from the high school to main street and back to the school.

We caught up to Sam and asked him what the escort meant to him.

“We’ve always had a great community coming out to support all the High School sports. Homer is just a great place to be.” Sam said to X101.

Sorenson is attending West Point next year.
