Homer’s Sam Sorenson Finishes on Top With 2nd State Wrestling Title; Victory Parade This Afternoon

Once again Homer High’s Sam Sorenson finishes out his high school wrestling season on top at the state wrestling championships from MVP Arena in Albany.

Saturday it was a 5-2 decision for Sorenson over Evan Day, from Salem/Cambridge in the 215 pound weight class final.

This marks his second straight New York State Wrestling Championship title.

Sorenson ends his high school career with impressive numbers.

Including:

– 1x Wyoming state Champ 2021
– 5th in NYS 2020
– Career record of 196-16
– Ranked #11 in the Nation
– 51-0 unbeaten senior year
– 47-0 unbeaten junior year
– 31-0 unbeaten sophomore year
– 130 consecutive win streak

A homecoming victory escort for Sam and the wrestling team by our area first responders starts at 4pm at the lower lot of the high school. The route will be East on Copeland Ave, north on South Main St, west on Clinton St and south on North-West St and back to the school.

Sorenson is attending West Point next year.
