For the second year in a row, Homer Winterfest will not take place.
“It was a difficult decision to make,” said festival organizers in a post on Facebook, “but due to concerns over the outbreak of Covid-19 and the health and safety of our community we have decided not to hold WinterFest again this coming year, 2022.”
The annual event typically brings wintertime food, fun, and entertainment to downtown Homer.
Last year would have been the 21st anniversary, but cases were too high to hold it safely.
When committee members made their decision to cancel back in October 2020, active infections hovered around 150-175. By January of 2021, they hit a peak of 350.
Officials made the same decision about this year’s festival on October 19, 2021.
