Homer High School senior Andrew Fagerheim was recently awarded a prestigious National Honor Society scholarship, making him one of just 575 selected from nearly 7k applications across the U.S.
The distinct award – worth $3,200 toward higher education – is given to students based on academic achievement, service, leadership, and character.
Fagerheim is the valedictorian of Homer High School’s Class of 2020 and will attend Columbia University in the fall to study engineering, with a special interest in sustainability and renewable energy.
He”s also worked as a member of the high school’s Environmental Club and Green Team, as well as in the community as an Assistant Climate Smart Communities Coordinator for the Village of Homer.
“Andrew has done an excellent job both in the classroom and in the community,” Homer High School Principal Douglas Van Etten said. “We could not be prouder of him and look forward to seeing all of his future successes.”
