The Village of Homer at Tuesday night’s Trustees monthly meeting renewed the School Resource Officer agreement unanimously.

A school resource officer as stated in the agreement provides extra security, fosters educational programs and increases knowledge and respect for the law and function of law enforcement agencies.

The village of Homer assigns five police officers to serve as SRO’s starting September 1st and continuing through June 30th, 2023. The village police chief Bob Pitman assigns officers and ensures they’re properly trained.

And on the cover of September’s NYS Association of Chiefs of Police monthly magazine was Village of Homer SRO Michael Bort.

The magazine did a cover story regarding school resource officers in their monthly magazine, the Chief’s Chronicle’s.

He’s featured on the cover of the magazine as he watches over Homer High School Seniors this past June as they walk out for their graduation commencement.
