The Homer Police Department is warning residents of an increase in vehicle thefts throughout the state. HPD says due to social media videos showing the ease of stealing certain vehicles has led to an increase in thefts of certain vehicles, mainly Hyundais and Kias.
With this, Homer Police is providing tips on what vehicle owners can do to prevent their vehicle from being stolen. Those tips include: never leaving your keys inside the vehicle, locking your doors, parking in well-lit areas, and installing anti-theft devices.
HPD says if your vehicle is part of the social media trend, take advantage of a software update and anti-theft sticker in the window of the vehicle from your manufacturer. A typical software update for your vehicle may be done at one of the brand’s dealerships.
