Homer police chief outlines planned 9/11 ceremony (audio)

September 11, 2021, marks the 20th anniversary of the attacks on this country that led to the deaths of first responders and thousands of Americans — and eventually, the war on terror.

To commemorate this date, the Homer Fire and Police Departments, along with the Village of Homer and the Homer American Legion, will host a ceremony at the 9/11 Memorial next to the Homer Fire Department.

The event is open to the public. It starts promptly at 8:30am with the raising of the American Flag by Homer Fire and Police officers.

South Main will be closed starting at 8:15am, between Central Park Place (entrance to the elementary school) and Albany Street, until the end of the ceremony.

Village police chief Bob Pitman discussed the ceremony on this week’s Happening in Homer segment.
