Homer Police Chief One of Many Honoring Veterans During Wreaths Across America


Village of Homer Police Chief Pitman along with members of the CNY Association of Chiefs of Police Association who this past Saturday, placed wreaths at Onondaga County Veterans Cemetery for the annual Wreaths Across America.

“Every year since 2008, Congress proclaim a Saturday in December as “National Wreaths Across America Day”. This year it was December 16th. Today more than 2 million Veterans’ Wreaths were placed across Local, National and Military Cemeteries as well as Veterans’ Memorials and historic sites. The goal of National Wreaths Across America Day, is to Remember, Honor and Teach by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies at more than 4,000 plus locations in all 50 U.S. states, at sea and abroad.” The Homer Police Department said in a release.

Those who volunteered during the event place live, balsam wreaths on the headstones of fallen veterans. The CNYACOP additionally donated $250 for wreaths for veterans.

After the event, members brought assorted clothing and cookies to the Syracuse Veterans Administration Hospital for those veterans who are residents. Homer Men & Boys donated assorted clothing for the event.
