Homer Mayor McCabe Officially Resigns – New Mayor to be Sworn in Later This Month

The Village of Homer Board of Trustees held a special meeting at noon on New Year’s Eve with one item on the agenda of accepting Homer Mayor Hal McCabe’s official resignation of the Mayor of Homer. McCabe has been mayor for the Village of Homer since March 2017.

McCabe’s reason for resignation as mayor is due to a new job he has accepted as District Director for Congressman Josh Riley in the 19th Congressional District of New York. His new position required his resignation. However, McCabe said while reading his resignation letter to the board that he knows Homer is in good standing and thanked everyone he has worked with.

“I am confident that this strong foundation we have built together, along with our dedicated village staff and Trustees, will ensure a smooth transition of leadership. I wanna express my deepest gratitude to the village employees, board members, and countless volunteers who have worked tirelessly to move Homer forward.” McCabe said to the Board of Trustees while reading his resignation letter.

The Board of Trustees, after joking about not accepting his resignation, voted unanimously to officially accept his resignation as mayor. The Village of Homer Board of Trustees will vote for a new mayor come their first meeting of the New Year on January 14th.

Back in December, McCabe nominated current Deputy Mayor Pat Clune for the position of mayor. He is expected to be voted by the Trustees as mayor come January 14th. Until then, as Deputy Mayor, Clune will fill the vacancy as interim mayor.
